“Wine People” is a project by one of Georgia’s largest wine producers to help Georgia’s smallest producers. They have been looking for very small winemakers who struggle to reach the market because of their limited editions, but who produce very special wines.
This red wine “Asuretuli Shala” is made from the rare dark pomegranate red Asuretuli Shala, a very old grape variety from Georgia. This beautiful wine is made by Levan Bandzeladze, who has his own vineyard around Asureti, a small village in the south of Georgia. The wine is produced in a traditional way, which means that the fermentation of the grapes in a Qvevri (a large earthenware pot, which is buried in the ground) takes place without the addition of yeast.
With notes of rich cherries and berries, this wine pairs well with roast chicken, fruity tagines and pasta dishes.
