The Babaneuris Marani Saperavi 2021 is made from the Saperavi grape. The vineyard is located in the Kakheti region of eastern Georgia, in the eponymous village of Babaneuri. This wine is fermented in the Qvevri. Due to the prolonged contact with the skin of the grape, this wine has acquired a deep red color. The Saperavi grape is already a teinturier grape which also has red flesh.
This Babaneuris Marani Saperavi shows strong flavors of cassis, red fruit and a touch of smoked almonds. The wine combines well with salty or bitter food which somewhat masks the tannins and allows the flavors to come into their own.
Combine this wine perfectly with grilled beef or game with some herbs and a powerful sauce, the wine can compete well with this and the herbs can mask the tannins. It is also extremely good to combine with a cheese board, where firm salty cheeses are a good combination. The Saperavi grape does not combine well with brie or camembert cheese.
