“Wine People” is a project by one of Georgia’s largest wine producers to help Georgia’s smallest producers. They have been searching for very small winemakers who struggle to reach the market because of their limited editions, but who produce very special wines.
This garnet red wine is made by Nino Gulbiani from the rare Georgian red grape variety Jghia, grown in 49-year-old vineyards in Kondoli. The wine is produced in a traditional way, which means that the fermentation of the grapes in a Qvevri (a large earthenware pot, buried in the ground) takes place without the addition of yeast.
With notes of fruit jam, dried figs, and persimmon, this wine pairs well with baked cheeses, meat salads, and barbecues.
Other wines from Teliani’s Wine People project:
– Kisi
– Shavkapito
– Aseratuli Shala
– Mukhamtsvane
– Alexandrouli
