Would you like to try a lesser known, native Georgian grape variety? Then this Khikhvi from the winery Kakhuri Gvinis Marani is highly recommended. A wine that is made according to the 8000-year-old Georgian unique method – in which the wine is fermented in an earthenware jug (a Qvevri) buried in the ground. This method is combined with long-term skin contact whereby the character of the grape can really make itself known. Usually, this results in wines with a higher amount of tannins; however, with this wine, the tannins are not as clearly present as with some other amber wines. These tannins in a white-grape wine usually take some getting used to for those who drink it for the first time. This makes this wine a very nice introduction to Georgian amber wines.
In addition, it is also a very pleasant wine to drink. Aromas of dried peach, red currant, and raspberry make you long for that next sip of this divine nectar, even before you finish your current sip.
Combine the wine with nuts (or dishes with nuts), sushi, or goat cheese, and your taste buds will have a party in your mouth.
