“Wine People” is a project by one of Georgia’s largest wine producers to help Georgia’s smallest producers. They have been looking for very small winemakers who struggle to reach the market because of their limited editions, but who produce very special wines.
For example, this dark ruby-red Aleksandrouli was made by Sophio Samteladze. Sophio makes wine from grapes from her own vineyards in the village of Khvanchkara, Racha, on the north-eastern side of West Georgia. The wine is produced in a traditional way, which means that the fermentation of the grapes in a Qvevri (a large earthenware pot, which is buried in the ground) takes place without the addition of yeast.
With intensive notes of cherries and red berries, this red wine goes well with stews, barbecues and hard cheeses.
