A full bodied red, traditional Saperavi from the winery “Kakhuri Gvinis Marani” ( which translates to: “the wine cellar of Kakheti” which is the main wine region of Georgia). It’s old, but currently an upcoming winery due to a brand new wine production facility in the heart of Kakheti. Using both the latest and the oldest (qvevri) techniques, they make fantastic wines with very strict quality control.
The chief winemaker of Kakhuri Gvinis Marani is Temur Gonjilashvili, a very famous name in Georgia when it comes to wine making. He also teaches at the university about wine making, and especially the traditional way in the qvevri.
This Saperavi wine is characterized by the aromas of red fruit, a full body and silky tannins. A very nice balance for a wine to drink with a grilled meat dish or a nice cheese platter with some cheeses that have a clear, outspoken character.
The winery’s Vivino scores do not yet do justice to their production in recent years. Particularly after investing in a new production facility and purchasing high quality vineyards, the current scores do not accurately reflect current production.
