The vineyards were planted on the best plots of Vazisubani Estate in 2016. Historically, these two grape varieties are endemic to the Kakheti region, and are a natural phenomenon to Vazisubani Estate. Therefore, our wines have very authentic, excellent, and unique properties in their flavor profile that are unique to this highly regarded terroir.
The soil of the vineyard consists of stony clay at 460 to 490 meters above sea level with a mild carbonate rock. The yield is a maximum of 8-10 tons, which equates to about 35-45 hectoliters per hectare.
If Georgia has a historical race mix, Rkatsiteli-Mtsvane is probably the undisputed oldest to have proven itself for its harmony and integration. Moreover, these unique grapes are made for each other to form a much more extensive palette together than each one individually.
Vinification is done in modern tanks but with an old approach, meaning fermentation with skin contact. An attempt is made to extract only by transfer and not by pressing, which is a traditional ancestral way of treating the two together. In this way, we achieve harmony at an earlier stage of the wine’s evolution. We then separate the wine from the solids and clarify it for further maturation. We look at the style formation and help it to evolve correctly by placing the wine under the right environmental conditions. When the correct result is achieved, the wine is bottled and set aside for bottle aging until fully ready to enjoy.
This wine is light amber in color and has an aroma rich in yellow plums and bananas. Its elegant body is soft with a light tannic structure and a balanced, lively acidity.
Combine the wine with white meat or (old) cheese. But the wine also goes well with a salmon and melon salad or with sweet and sour Asian dishes and spicy stewed meat dishes.
Best served at a temperature of 14°C – 15°C.
