General Information
Vardzia Terraces Khikhvi is an amber-colored natural wine from southern Samtskhe-Javakheti. The wine is made from the Khikhvi grape, an ancient and aromatic variety that is rare outside Georgia.
The grapes are hand-harvested. Then, spontaneous fermentation takes place in qvevri, underground clay amphorae. The wine ages on the skins for several months, which contributes to its color, texture, and aroma. Vardzia Terraces works biodynamically, without additives or filtration.
Tasting Profile of Vardzia Terraces Khikhvi
The wine has a deep amber color with a golden glow. The bouquet opens with floral notes of linden blossom and orange blossom, complemented by candied peach, honey, and spices such as turmeric and chamomile.
On the palate, it is full, dry, and complex. The tannins provide structure, while fresh acids add liveliness. The finish is long, with a subtle bitterness and a spicy note.
