General Information
Shalauri Rkatsiteli is produced in the village of Shalauri, located in the heart of the Georgian wine region Kakheti. The wine is made from 100% Rkatsiteli, one of the oldest grape varieties in the world and the white grape of Eastern Georgia.
The wine is fully vinified according to the traditional qvevri method: spontaneous fermentation on skins, seeds, and stems in embedded clay pots, followed by several months of aging in the same qvevri. This process results in a wine with pronounced structure, dry concentration, and a distinct earthy character.
Tasting Profile of Shalauri Rkatsiteli
The wine has a deep amber color with coppery hues. On the nose, you can smell dried apricot, orange peel, spices such as turmeric and chamomile, with a hint of tea and nuttiness.
On the palate, the wine is powerful and dry, with firm tannins and lively acidity. The flavors are earthy, spicy, and lightly oxidative in tone, with a long, meditative finish. The structure is robust but refined and balanced.
