Kolkha Mukuzani comes from the Mukuzani region in Kakheti, one of the most well-known and highly regarded regions of Georgia. It is located on the southwestern bank of the Alazani River, where the soil is clay and limestone. This region is best known for its dry red wine made from the Saperavi grape, which generally spends longer aging in oak than in other regions.
This Kolkha Mukuzani is produced in limited quantities of a few thousand bottles, made from well-aged, fresh, and high-quality grapes. Fermentation and a long aging process in oak barrels create a wine with a unique flavor and complexity.
This wine is also suitable for long-term storage in a cellar, as the tannins become rounder and softer with age.
The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 10-12 months, resulting in a complex taste of oak, tannins, fruit, and vanilla. The wine has subtle hints of smoke, blackberries, cassis, and is characterized by a long, persistent finish.
The tannins and bold flavor pair well with slightly salty dishes (which neutralize the tannins) that can stand up to the taste. Therefore, the wine is perfect with grilled meat or a strong cheese. But on its own, it is also a delightful wine to enjoy.
