The Kolkha Mukuzani comes from the similarly named Mukuzani region in Kakheti. It is one of the most famous and highly rated regions of Georgia. Located on the southwestern bank of the Alazani River, where the soil is clay and lime. This region is best known for its dry red wine from the Saperavi grape, which is generally aged longer in oak than in other regions.
This Kolkha Mukuzani is produced in limited quantities, with a few thousand bottles made from fresh, high-quality grapes. Fermentation and long aging in oak barrels give the wine a unique taste and complexity.
This wine is also suitable for long storage in a cellar, as the tannins become rounder and softer with age.
The wine is aged in old French oak barrels for 10-12 months, resulting in a complex flavor of oak, tannins, fruit, and vanilla. It has subtle hints of smoke, blackberry, and cassis, and is characterized by a long, lingering finish.
The wine pairs perfectly with grilled meat or a strong cheese. But on its own, it is a wonderful wine to enjoy.
