Besides these characteristic Hungarian grape varieties, Ciska has chosen a variety of South French origin: Syrah.
In Hungary, Syrah is more elegant and fruitier in character than its South French counterparts. The wine is blended with Kékfrankos and undergoes 9 months of barrel aging. A surprisingly beautiful combination.
This wine bears the name BALLADA. A wine with rhythm, smooth and spicy with a clear pepper note in the nose and on the palate, spicy with cherries and ripe tannins. Made to age for a few years. But even this most powerful wine from Hegyem’s palette can be enjoyed lightly chilled in its youth and is very approachable.
The wine pairs well with a stew, but also likes to be served alongside a cheese platter with a fine piece of Morbier.
