Georgian winemakers often learn to make wine from their fathers and grandfathers. Thus, Georgia is not wealthy when it comes to the number of oenologists. However, Kakha Tchotiashvili is one of them, and he has already built a great reputation in Georgia. His wines have been awarded multiple times and distinguished with the most beautiful medals. He is also a well-liked speaker on the process of winemaking in the qvevri.
It is with pride that we added this winery to our selection in 2019.
The vineyards of the winery are located in Kakheti at an altitude of about 600-700 meters above sea level. The soil contains a lot of humus and carbonate, which provides excellent nourishment for the grapevines.
Since the first bottle of Kisi wine became commercially available again in 2006 (before that, the grape was considered a forgotten variety), many winemakers have started making wine with this magnificent grape. The wine exhibits the usual aromas of the Kisi grape on the nose (peach, combined with black tea and orange peel), and then in the mouth, these aromas are realized with an additional hint of honey. However, it is impossible to describe all the aromas that different people have mentioned recognizing in this wine: it can certainly be described as complex. Drinking this wine is truly an experience.
The combinations this wine dares to pair with food are extensive: the usual pairing of amber wines with goat cheese, white meat with a sauce, nuts, or even sushi is obvious. But the wine would also pair beautifully with smoked mackerel or eel, and it would not be out of place with game birds either.
