Shalauri Kisi is an authentic Georgian amber wine, produced by Shalauri Cellars in the Kakheti region. Made from the indigenous Kisi grape, this wine is crafted using the traditional Qvevri method, resulting in a rich and complex flavor experience.
Grape Variety and Vinification
The Kisi grapes are hand-harvested and undergo natural fermentation with indigenous wild yeasts, without the addition of artificial substances. The fermentation and aging take place in Qvevris—large clay vessels buried in the ground—with a maceration period of about 6 months. This prolonged skin contact gives the wine its characteristic amber color and tannin structure.
Tasting Profile
Shalauri Kisi presents a complex aroma of ripe fruit, wildflowers, apple, apricot, and dried fruit. On the palate, the wine offers firm but elegant natural tannins, ensuring a balanced and refined taste experience.
Serving Advice
This amber wine pairs excellently with white meat, game birds, pork, and rich fish dishes. It also complements (goat) cheeses well. It is recommended to decant the wine before serving and to serve at a temperature of 14-16°C.
