General Information
Baia’s Wine Krakhuna is an artisanal white wine from the village of Obcha in the western Georgian region of Imereti. The wine is made from 100% Krakhuna, a local grape variety that thrives excellently in the cooler microclimate of the area.
The wine is produced by Baia Abuladze, a young female winemaker who swapped her studies in Tbilisi for a life among her family’s vineyards. She works according to the Imeretian version of the Georgian tradition, where fermentation takes place in a churi – the local variant of the qvevri. These clay pots are buried above ground and sealed with a thick layer of clay.
Baia demonstrates in this wine how Krakhuna, often underappreciated, can produce a powerful yet accessible white wine.
Tasting Profile of Baia’s Wine Krakhuna
The wine has a golden color. On the nose, you find ripe pear, apricot, tropical fruit, and a hint of caramel.
The taste is dry, full, and round, with soft acidity, a creamy texture, and a long, elegant finish. The wine has a clear structure but remains refined and easy to drink.
