General Information
Magistraat De Questeerder is a strongly blond beer with 9% alcohol, inspired by the great Belgian classics. This golden-yellow beer comes from the cellars of Brouwerij De Magistraat in Almkerk. It is the first official recipe of their brewer and beer sommelier Léon. De Questeerder is not a tripel, but due to its dry finish and high carbonation, it has its own style: dangerously drinkable with character.
Flavor Profile of Magistraat De Questeerder
De Questeerder has a clear golden color and a firm foam head. On the nose, floral aromas, ripe stone fruit, banana, and a hint of white pepper. The taste is softly sweet at the start with a slight hop bitterness and spicy esters. The alcohol is well integrated and contributes to a warm finish. The carbonation provides extra freshness and makes the beer surprisingly accessible.
Serving Advice
Thanks to its balance of strength and refinement, De Questeerder is versatile at the table or as an aperitif. Serve preferably between 6 and 8 °C in a tulip or balloon glass. Pair with:
-
Grilled ribeye or entrecôte
-
Roasted chicken with thyme
-
Strong, aged cheeses (e.g., aged crumbly cheese)
-
As a standalone aperitif beer
Fun Fact
The beer style ‘strong blond’ is often mistakenly confused with tripel, but there are subtle differences. The drier finish and higher carbonation create a lighter impression, despite the high alcohol content. The style originated in Belgium as a counterpart to abbey tripels, intended for a broader audience.
