General Information
Chona’s Marani Rkatsiteli is an artisanal amber wine from Kakheti, eastern Georgia, where the qvevri tradition is deeply rooted. The wine is made from 100% Rkatsiteli, one of the oldest and most planted grape varieties in Georgia.
After manual harvest, the grapes undergo full fermentation in qvevri, including prolonged skin contact. The wine remains in the qvevri for months, developing its amber color, tannins, and structure. Chona’s Marani operates according to natural principles: spontaneous fermentation, no filtering or fining, and no addition of sulfites.
Tasting Profile of Chona’s Marani Rkatsiteli
The wine has a deep amber color with copper reflections. On the nose, you can recognize dried apricot, orange peel, spices such as turmeric and sage, and a light nutty note.
On the palate, the wine is dry, powerful, and rich in tannins. The structure is robust, with lively acidity and a complex, slightly earthy finish. It is a distinctive wine that demands attention and time in the glass.

Fun Fact
The qvevri method used by Chona’s Marani has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2013. In Kakheti, full fermentation, including malolactic conversion and skin maceration, is completed in the embedded qvevri. This style produces wines with pronounced structure, ideal for long aging and serving with hearty, spiced dishes.
