General Information
Chikhladze’s Marani Mtsvane is an amber-colored natural wine from Imereti, Western Georgia. The wine is made from 100% Mtsvane, an aromatic grape variety that is normally cultivated in Eastern Georgia, but here on clay-rich soil, it expresses itself surprisingly well.
The wine undergoes traditional qvevri fermentation with spontaneous fermentation. During this process, the skins remain in contact with the must for several months. The wine is neither clarified nor filtered and contains no added sulfites. Chikhladze’s Marani works artisanally and on a small scale, focusing on the pure expression of grape and region.
Tasting Profile of Chikhladze’s Marani Mtsvane
The wine has a deep amber color with coppery reflections. On the nose, you find aromas of dried apple, orange peel, chamomile, and almond.
In the mouth, the wine is dry, spicy, and structured. The tannins are present but fine, with refreshing acidity that provides balance. The finish is long and complex, with earthy and lightly bitter notes that are characteristic of qvevri wines.

Did You Know?
Imereti has a unique qvevri tradition, with smaller clay pots (churi) and shorter skin contact than in Kakheti. Still, Chikhladze’s Marani deliberately opts for a longer maceration period, creating a bridge between Western and Eastern Georgian styles. The used Mtsvane is rare in this region, making this wine especially special.
