The wine production company “Tavankari” was founded in 2015, relatively young, but has decades of family wine tradition. The roots go back as far as the third generation of winemaking experience and are inspired by the family history of wine-making tradition. The company name was exceptionally chosen to revive those old traditions in contemporary winemaking: “Tavankari” is an old word for a rare, pure, most authentic top-quality wine in Georgia. Today, Tavankari Wine is a (small) family business producing top-quality red and white wines. The company also produces a number of unique Qvevri wines.

Chikhladze’s winery is one of those small family vineyards that Georgia owes its reputation to. Here, the wines are still made with great care and attention, which is evident from the result. In 2019 at the wine exhibition, all five of his wines won gold or at least silver medals, which is exceptional.
This wine has also been awarded both a gold medal at the Wine Expo in Tbilisi and a silver medal at the qvevri competition.

A complex wine with many layers of flavors and aromas, this is best described by the wine from renowned winemaker Kakha Tchotiashvili. It is no surprise that the winemaker in Georgia has such a great reputation when his portfolio includes wines like this.
This is not a wine I would recommend if you’ve never tasted an amber wine before. It is a typical wine for the advanced drinker who can appreciate the complexity in taste experience.
